Charles Taylor on Paul Ricoeur

Now for the second video as part of our series on thinkers who have influenced Social Imaginaries.

Charles Taylor is one of our Editors-at-Large, and contributed to a round-table discussion on ‘Social Imaginaries’ in our first issue, along with Craig Calhoun, Dilip Gaonkar, Benjamin Lee and Michael Warner. Taylor is one of the most prominent thinkers in current philosophy and social theory. His work Modern Social Imaginaries (2004) brings together his reflections on multiple modernities, secularism. multiculturalism and morality, and modes of imagined social practices in modernity.

In this video, Taylor discusses the work of Paul Ricoeur, whose work in phenomenology and hermeneutics is also an influence upon the ‘imaginary’ of Social Imaginaries.
